Mend Epson RX425 Scanner Printing

How can I fix my Epson Stylus Photo RX425?

My Epson rx425 prints and photocopies without any problems. However, today, when using the scanner, there is a half inch gap down the middle of the scanned image. This is the first time this has happened.
Any ideas what the problem could be?
