Mend Problem Electric Running

problem with the electric cord?

the weedwacker was running and would stop. I moved the cord around and it would start again, I bought a new plug for it but could the problem be in the cord itself?

Yes - very probably - the cutting line may have damaged the power cord so take care - there could be an exposed electrical wire at the machine end.
