New World G70m - melting knobs and turning off???

this cooker is probably around 4 years old. Over the past month the grill has been getting very hot and started melting the knobs in the front. Too hot to even touch!
then the oven started to turn itself off after around 5mins use. then after 10mins it would turn back on. it doesnt seem to be getting very hot though either, and food is taking forever to cook.

i was told by a gas engineer that it was the thermostat but he reccommended buying a new one as it would be too expensive to repair.

can anyone help? ive seen the same problem ona couple of sites but none have been answered.

Please please help if you can.... ive already ordered a new one now but im starting to think i could fix this??????

Yes, I have had exactly the same problem. The front knob have been melting, the grill has been uncontrollable and the Oven cut out after 5 minutes use.

I have fixed the problem by replacing the fan control board References 17676 (PCB-122-4).

Check first if the fan is running running when you switch on either the Oven or the Grill. You may have to remove the oven from your kitchen units, and the fan if working properly it should be spinning at a good rate. If no then it will either be the Fan or the Fan controller board.

To check whether it was the fan or the controller I switched off the main electrical supply, took the blue neutral wire from the fan, disconnected it from the control board, and then wired it directly to the neutral of the main supply. When I restored the power the fan kicked in straight away. We used the oven for a few days with the fan wired in permanently and the Oven and Grill was working as new. I ordered a new controller board off the internet (paid around £20) and this solved all my problems, the oven and the grill operate as they should.

I expect the grill was playing up because it hadn't enough air flow, and the oven was cutting out as it was over heating.

I am no gas engineer, but have years of experience of fixing appliances, as the problem is only electronic you don't need to be a gas engineer to fix this problem. Be careful as it is main supply at 240volts.

Hi Laura ,It sounds as though your oven may have two faults. The melting knobs is as ovenman suggests the fan not running and in my case was also the electronics controller board at fault. I did manage to repair the original board by replacing the large blue capacitor ( marked C1 on the board ) which is a 0.22mf 275 volt capacitor.
** Please remember this is Mains voltage( 250 volts )on this board ! ** Isolate supply first !***

We found with ours that the fan stopped running. The controller board had failed. Just connect the blue wire from the fan directly to the blue neutral wire where the power comes in and it will run constantly preventing over heating.
