Can only get hot water when central heating is on?

I can only get hot water if I turn the central heating system on. Once the heating is on I can then switch off the heating and the hot water remains hot, until I turn off the tap. Then I have to repeat the process.

I assume you have a Combi ? but maybe it isn't, do you have a Hot Tank in an Airing Cupboard ?

Assuming a Combi sounds like either a Hot Water Diaphragm, or depending on the boiler type & Model the Hot Water Flow-Switch

We had same problem and it was the pressure diaphram had a small hole in it..
