sounds like you have your keyboard set up for U.S u can change this in control panel then keyboard or just hold down the shift button and press number 2

Assuming that you get somthing just not the @ sign you probably have a miss match between your keyboard and your Operating System (Windows?). It may help if you give a more comprehensive description of the problem, whether it has every wporked properly and what country/language your keyboard is.
