can a ZIG DCU/3 unit be repaired?

I have a ZIG DCU/3 Remote charging unit & power supply for my caravan but it has developed a fault where the unit powers the 12v volt side of the caravan ie:lights water pump etc,the fault is intermitant, it cuts in and out switching the lights and water pump on and off about every 30 /50 seconds.

I can go and get a new unit at £120 but I think the fault could be fixed I am sure it must be a small fault.
can anyone help please.

The otter part is self resetting thermal trip/switch to protect the unit from over current and over heating.

the part is a capacitor, connected across one wire of the secondary output of the transformer at the bottom, and the other end to another tapping of the transformer just to its left

dcu-3 check 240v in, it then goes to a double pole switch, chech 240v ac out of switch, then the pos red goes to the fuse, then the same pair 240v ac goes to the primary of the tranformer check again 240v ac, then it comes out on the secondary at about 12 to 14v ac again, then it goes to a bridge rectifier in at 12t0 14 v ac, and comes out 12 to 14v dc, there is also a capaciter across to make it stable/smooth, the capacitor looks like a small battery for id purposes,, some times they are prone to the wires coming off the transformer, any more help, mail take care when faultfinding live

Hi Mike
I took the cover off the DCU3 and there was a
small cream plastic part that looked like a resistor but I am not sure, I put the power on and it started arking. The part was made by Ottor who I have sent an email to asking for more info on this part.
It was soldered on to two gray wires and attached to the copper wound sections not sure what they are.

So I will let you know if I get the problem sorted.
Thanks for your help.

Hope i can help. The zig unit is very simple.the charging side of things has nothing to do with the running of the 12v system.basicly lives from the leisure and car battery enter the rear of the unit, then through a thermo fuse and then to the switches and through fuses then to the appliances.Anyway im sure you have one of 2 potential faults.first clean contacts on the rear of the 12v switch, even if there is 12v at the switch as an amps drain can cause it to fail ,and then check the thermo fuse as that could be failing, both easy to check and fix,i could be wrong but thats my bet.let us know if it helps
