How to repair cord rewind on electrolux epic series 6500 sr?

The answer above (slide the strips off the end where the bag goes) is OK. I was able to nudge the cord holder and get it to rewind.
Watch for a little [vacuum hose?] that can come off the inside of the top.
Note: when the housing cap comes off the end away from the bag end,
mark which way is up; then remember to put it back when you are ready to Force the top & bottom of the main housing together: not easy.

The two plastic strips on either side of the canister slide toward the bag door side and off of the machine. Use a good pair of pliars to pull on them. If they are stubborn, use a small flat screwdriver to pry outward a little on the end of the plastic to help "unlock" them. The machine will come apart in 2 halves. At this point, you should have a brand new cord reel assembly ready to install. There are no servicable parts within these newer cord reels. They usually break inside and the spring gets loose .
