how to reset my packard bell?

Hi

Can and how can I reset my packard bell UTOW SAN to factory settings, I delieve it's to do with restarting the pc, then you have to catch it early before it reboots, some say ctrl and f10 but I want to make sure, I have backed up photos on to cd, so I am not bothered about losing anything, I don't have a disc.

✓ Before using the Recovery Program, please FIRST try to fix your computer with Windows XP System
Restore.
✓ DO NOT SAVE your data in C:\WINDOWS. During the recovery process, all data contained in this
folder will be deleted.
✓ The procedure described below is only applicable if your recovery data is stored on your computer's hard
disk. If you wish to restore your computer using Master DVD/CDs, please see instructions on page 26.
✓ After recovery, all software titles that you have installed on your computer must be reinstalled before
you can use them again. Only the pre-installed titles (e.g. DVD Player, CD-writer) will function without
additional installation.
✓ If you were given a choice of languages when you first setup your computer, you can only recover your
operating system in the language you chose originally.
✓ Due to the wide range of reasons for which the Recovery Program may be used, no guarantee can be
given that all data will be retained.

Starting the Recovery Program
Prepare your Computer

1. Backup your personal files
Save a copy of your personal documents onto CDs, DVDs, memory cards or high capacity disks. Please
refer to InfoCentre to learn how to create backups.
2. Return your computer to its original configuration
a. Remove any additional hardware components (e.g. sound card, video card, network card) that you
may have added to your computer.
b. Re-install the original Packard Bell hardware components if you have removed them.
c. Make sure that your keyboard, mouse, monitor and speakers are connected properly (if appropriate
for your computer).
d. Disconnect any additional devices that you have connected to your computer (e.g. scanner, printer,
etc.)

Launch the Recovery Program

Press the [F11] key upon start-up when the Packard Bell logo appears, or use the Recovery Program
shortcut in Smart Restore (Start > All Programs > Packard Bell Support).

Anything you do before windows boots will onnly restore the bios to original settings and wont affect windows. you need to either use system restore or do a fresh install if you have a windows problem

Hi If your Running Microsoft Windows XP Try Using System Restore, go to start-accesories-system tools-system restore, the other advice your given is telling you to go to system Bios and has nothing to do with windows if it has never been accesed then it should not need resetting. however if it does then press F10 on boot up (note different motherboards have different access commands ) it may be Alt & Delete or even F8 or just delete. you usually get a quick message at boot up telling you which button to hit, when you do this you will have to use the up,down, left, right to navigate BIOS find restore defaults and restore, it will probably tell you to hit F10 to accept or esc to Exit, when you sort it use windows Steady State (its Free from Microsoft Update) its brill it will always refer to its previous State at shut Down and eliminate your probs altogether.Unless you mean you want to Format (wipe clean and start with windows new instalation), then you will need A windows Disc. If so Try E-Buyer they are about £50 for XP and £70ish for Vista. good luck
