Indesit wi101 programme control keeps turning?

i rang up indesit and apparently this problem is due to a blockage in the filter. i was told to remove the front bottom panel, turn the filter and allow the water to drain out (stick some teatowels on the floor for this!) and then pull out the filter and get the blockage out. unfortunately i can't actually get the filter out to do this...
