CAN I ADD A BACK STRIP TO SIDEBOARD?

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A SIDEBOARD WHICH IS FLUSH AT THE BACK. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE A HIGH SKIRTING BOARD AND A SOCKET WHICH MEANS THE SIDEBOARD JUTS OUT FROM THE WALL. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE. THE SIDEBOARD IS LIGHT OAK FROM EASY LIVING STORE
