My Hoover 6166 HNL wont empty and the start button and the time delay butto?

My hoover HNL6166 wont empty and the start buttom and time delay button are flashing simultaneously three times, have I pressed something in error?

This is a common problem. Water has dripped on to the pump and damaged the electronic module in the top of the machine.
