I own a Hyundai Matrix 1.6 (54 reg). For the last few days the airbag light has been on constantly - before taking it to a dealer and then taking out a loan to pay off the bill, are there any checks that I can do to try to fix the problem or at least give me an idea what the problem is. Being a female I always fear I will be ripped off at a garage but being an engineer (not a car one though) I am always willing to have a go. Thank you.
Yep, same here. It's the yellow connector under the driver's seat. If the car hasn't been used for a while or the seat hasn't been moved for a while, then it is moved, this apprently causes the problem. Just give the connector a wiggle or unplug it and clean it with WD40 and re-connect. Job done, and the light behaves normally.

Thanks, it was the connection under the drivers seat for me, saved me a fortune.

I know it is a bit late to place an answer for this prob, but I have the same fault and it turned out to be the plug under the drivers seat which has worked loose slightly. pushed it together, and every thing was fine.

i work for a hyundai dealer and a common airbag fault with the matrix is behind the glove box the yellow airbag wire sometimes catches on the side of the heater box, first you MUST disconnect the battery drop the glove box down and check the wire is not caught then try reconnecting the battery and see what happens!!
