HELP PLEASE!! DVD Recorder Plays but does not record nor finalize disks any?

I have a Samsung DVD-R120 that plays all my disks including my finalized disks but will no longer record on new disks nor finalize my unfinalized disks (have 2 that I need to finalize of a wedding).
I've tried unplugging, and leaving it for several days and re plugging it again, and again to re set it but when I try to finalize my 2 disks,...I get an error message that "says [EC-0507] and please turn the power off to the DVD player, and try again."
I called Samsung support several times on different occasions and no one seems to know what this error [EC 0507] means, and suggested it could be a laser issue. They recommended a repair facility which I called, and the repair technician thought it was odd that it can play the DVD's (meaning laser must be able to pick up the signal) but not the unfinalized disks or can't record on new disks (same brand disks I've been using for last 3 years).
My question is,...can I retrieve the the wedding video on both unfinalized disks using a later model Samsung (either the R130, R150, R160 or any other) that I can access most likely from others to finalize or do I need to repair the original recorder/palyer?
If I do get it repaired,...will I be able to finalize the disks I started with on this same DVD?I would be most greatful for any advice/help you may have.
I've also found in a Forum that there is a memory update for this unit but upon searching the website I called support once again after trying to find it. Nicole in customer support said they don't have this update available at all.
