Why won't my Bissell turn on?

I have a Bissell Powerforce Bagless Vacuum, Model #6594 and I used it a few weeks ago and it worked fine -- however, the sound of the vacuum seemed different than usual. It was light a high, high pitch sound-- anyways, I went to use it this morning and it wouldn't even turn on!!! However, the light came on but I could not get the vacuum to turn on. I'm desperate for you HELP!!! Any idea what it could be? Thank you so much for your help, too!!!!
