starting renault kangoo van from cold?

i turn on ignition wait 4 glo plug light to go off and turn key,engine starts but with no revs and glo plug light comes back on,so now i turn engine off and go through the procedure again and this time all is fine but lots of smoke from exhaust.this happens every single time i start from cold particuaraly bad in cold weather can take upto 6 times to start.please help its driving me mad!
