is my washing machine to blame why my electric keeps on tripping?

Everytime I switch on my Hotpoint washing machine, it is tripping off the rest of my appliances e.g. TV (it doesn't matter if it is on standby) or actually ON... and all the appliances that are plugged in the socket, BUT, If I switch the washing machine first I can use it to wash my clothes. Someone told me that it is my washing machine that is faulty, so how come I can still manage to wash a full load without the machine stopping? And as soon as the laundry done I switch off the machine on OFF and the electric trps of again. Please help.
