Packard Bell laptop internet problem?

Recently I have been experiencing problems connecting my laptop to the internet. I don't have a problem actually connecting to the internet the problem is that when I click to open Internet Explorer the window opens but nothing is displayed. It just constantly loads the page with nothing happening. The 'web page cannot be displayed' page doesn't even come up just a blank screen and the loading bar at the bottom of the page.

The icon in the bottom right of the screen in the windows bar shows that the computer is connected to the internet.

Any help would be appreciated.
