My washing machine stops mid cycle?

I have a Hoover 800 front loader automatic washing machine. The washing machine does not complete it's washing cycles anymore. It always stop at the same place in the washing cycle. It stops twice. Once before it is suppose to take in the fabric softener and again when it is suppose to start the dry spin cycle. In both cases I move the program selector on manually. Does anyone know what causes this and more importantly, how do you fix it? Thanks.
