Samsung home cinema system OK on DVD but no stereo on TV?

I have both a Samsung TV (9mths old) and a new samsung home cinema system. the five speaker sound is fantastic on DVD playback but the TV just goes thru the tinny little thing in the TV. I know this isn't right so how do i connect it properly?
