How can I fix my Epson Stylus Photo RX420?

My Epson Stylus Photo RX420 just keeps saying there is a paper jam, I have cleared out anything that could have been stuck and shaken it to try to hear if anything loose but can not hear anything but still get error. I have tried to take scanner top off but unable to undo one side and have now snapped other side's holder so will not be able to fix that but should still print or scan shouldn't it? Please can I have some suggestions as I have loads of ink cartridges and don't really want to have to buy a new printer/scanner, Thanks in advance to any replies!
