how to fix a digilogic dvrw2?

WHEN PLUGGED IN I GET THE BLUE STANDBY LIGHT ON,
BUT CANNOT TURN IT ON TO USE IT WITH NEITHER THE BUTTON OR THE REMOTE, IT STAYS ON STANDBY

It's not anything else connected or disconnected to it, it does it when not connected to anything, not even a TV, i tried it (without a monitor, press a button then another and it locks up). Longest reset needed - overnight.

We have had this DVD recorder for over a year now and it has never worked properly. It locks up constantly and doesn't like you pressing the buttons too quickly one after the other. Originally i phoned the tesco helpline and they were keen but useless. It appears that the only way to reset it is to un-plug the machine, leave it for a good few minutes, then plug it in again. I would have thrown it away a long time ago, but it was our only recorder for a while and now we have SKY+ so we rarely use it (even for playback).
No other fix that i can suggest, except live with it or throw it away, sorry.
