Why does Digilogic VCR/DVD Combi Model DVDVCR2 display "SAFE"?

Video cassette has been inserted. Unit displays only "----" or "SAFE". No buttons on unit or remote control have any effect and the cassette cannot be ejected or played. Have tried disconnecting from mains supply as recommended in instructions, but there is no change when power is reconnected.

I had the same problem and phoned tesco's where i bought my dvd player, to fix you need to hold down the red power button on the remote control for about 30secs and it should unlock, if you wait a minute or two it should then work. it worked on my machine! the lady on the phone said she didn't know why or how it was put on 'safe' mode though!

I had the same problem, I just pressed the on button, on the remote, for a few seconds, the word SAFE went and it works fine now. Dont press it on the machine itself as it will just show SAFE on the display. Just had to re set the clock.
