Mend Halogen Ceiling Light Fitting

Halogen Ceiling light fitting not working?

New fitting tried two, bot have same problem. 10 bulb pendent that works for 10 mins, flashes and goes off.
Seems to get very hot, but after an hour or so will come back on and do the same. Do i need a certain compatible switch?
