Bit late for my answer but I had the same problem. A friend suggested putting fresh fuel in the tank. I emptied out the old fuel, replaced it with fresh fuel and it has worked trouble fre ever since (several years). The problem is that the brushcutter may be stored for 2-3 years between uses. Condensation builds up in the fuel tank and water gets into the fuel. Such a simple solution, which amazed me.

Mine had a similar problem and it was the cylinder was coming loose from the crankcase and that was able to correct by tightening the torx bolts through the top of the shroud. No matter how I adjusted the carb it would last a short period of time.

Sounds like carb adfjustment, manual is available online free. http://www.stihlusa.com/stihl_ownersmanuals/FS81_86_106_Manual.pdf Basic settings are go ,very gently, to full seat on High and Low speed mixture screws on the carb, then open both one full turn. They are marked H and L on the carb. Leave the high speed alone unless you can measure rpms. I had to open my low speed almost another 1/2 turn to get it to stop cutting out at idle and have good acceleration. Adjust the Idle setting screw to have cutting head not rotate at idle.
Also there is the needle valve in the carb that might be gummed up and not opening properly. I think access is from the side with the four screws on carb. Then one screw holds in the pin, lever and spring that opens and closes the needle valve. Easier to work on than it sounds, just don't lose the little spring

I've a hs80 and it would run for a while then cutout and wouldn't start it again for awhile the cause of the problem was the electronic ignition that needed replacing.
