iveco turbo daily 35-10 poor running?

my iveco tipper 35-10 fluffs when cold and on light throttle blue smokes, i have been told it could be the pump timing, when hot and on the road the smoke goes and only whiffs black when changing up a gear, the engine sounds like its missing when cold, could it be injectors or a pre heat problem
