The cord is bound up on the reel frame. You have to take the motor cover off. There are 2 screws under the bag door hinges, and 2 screws under the cord rectract button. The button prys off with a screw driver (pry from the back). The bag cover slides out of the motor cover just by hinging it farther than normal. Once the cover is undone, you will be able to access the cord reel.
