Mend Dyson DC05 Burnt Motor

How to remove and replace burnt motor for Dyson DC05 Barrel Vacuum Cleaner?

Let me introduce myself, my name is Paul Susanto, and I reside in the city of Malang in East Java, Indonesia.

I had purchased a Dyson DC05 barrel vacuum in Perth, Western Australia (Australia) in early 2000, during my time as a university student in Australia.

I had brought it back with me to Indonesia during one of my university / college vacation trips back to my hometown. The DC05 was never seen in my hometown, and is still my pride and joy due to its very high suction capacity and colourful design.

Now I am back in my hometown of Malang, where I am living and working here.

Today (Friday: September 1st, 2006), when I was vacuuming my car's interior in the afternoon (it was dry, of course), and all of a sudden the motor in the vacuum got "stuck" (i.e. did not spin) and hence, gave out a dense gray-coloured smoke and I guess the motor short-circuited and burnt. And yes, it did smell strongly of burnt metal.

Well, I hope I've explained the above well enough to understand.

The motor stopped spinning for a few seconds, until I grabbed the power cord and disconnected the vacuum from the main power supply. God knows what would happen had I not disconnected the main power supply in a short reaction time.

Now I am stuck for answers, as I am unable to find yet a Dyson repair dealer here in Indonesia.

I am assuming the best solution to repair the vacuum is to replace the DC05's electric motor, but I am unable to take apart the actual vacuum housing to see what has happened to the motor and dissemble it.

Would anybody happen to have any soft-copy Dyson DC05 Repair Manuals or would you kindly spare time to explain how to take apart the Dyson DC05? Rest assured, as my vacuum unit is nearly 6 years old, it is not under guarantee. Hence, I am willing to fiddle around with it and get to the problem.

Any help and assistance would be thankful and appreciated, please e-mail your help and answers to my e-mail addresses stated above. Thank you all!

Hi, I had the same problem and tried to use the method at spresaver, however I couldn't get the wheels to come off. I came up with an alternative way to get at the motor.

Have a look at www.tasweb.org for the full story with pictures.
