fixing front door mechanisms on VW T4 transporter (ex AA Van)?

I have 2003 VW T4 van and problems with both front doors. Drivers door the latch has snapped I think from the mechanism inside the door and does not work. The passenger door opens but has chosen this moment to develop a fault where the catch does not automatically retract and will bang against the metal 'post' on the door frame rather than closing and locking around it. Has anyone seen any info on the net about what to look for/do when you open the door up ? I think I need a part for the driver door but may be able to tweak the problem with the passenger door, but That's only hearsay. Any suggestions much appreciated .
