quattro 1300 hoover machine. which exhibit incomplete cycles?

Sorry all but was so distraught about the washing machine i forgot my manners . please accept my unreserved apology.
The machine works sporadically and sometimes when left over night the clothing in it smells. The cycle can be completed when another programme is selected. Please advice me on what could be wrong? With much thanks
