Why does my washer smell like the drains when i first put it on and how do i get rid of it?

usually this smell is from built up undisolved powder/soap caused by NOT doing a hot wash (90 degrees) periodacly . put a whole packet ( same size as small bag of sugar) of soda crystals into drum and put machine on to its hottest wash usually 90+ WITHOUT PREWASH and WITHOUT clothes leave untill programme finished ,good idea too do this once a month.

if the waste pipe is connected to the sink there is not much you can do but if the waste pipe goes into an out pipe on the wall the odds are the waste pipe is pushed in to far so the washer is back syphoning (sucking dirty water back in) pull the waste pipe up so that only a few inches goes into the outpipe.
