Mend Washing Machine Pump Removed

Washer won't drain - burning smell from underneath?

Our washing machine won't drain, and there is a burning smell from underneath. The drain pump is hot. We removed it, and it seems to be fine - no blockage found and everything turns freely. Could the drain motor be bad?
