fuel pump location/access on a 94 VW Transporter diesel?

Where is the fuel pump located and how do I access it? Drop the fuel tank or through the floor boards. This on a 94 VW Transporter diesel. Thx.

if it is a t4 it has a mechanical fuel pump that works off the crank shaft and is located on the left hand side front on the 1.9 and on the right hand side on a 2.4 regards gary
