looking for help on glow plug removal (renault espace)?

Hi - I've done exactly this job on a phase III deisel Espace (model JE0E Engine G8T) it looks more scary than it is... though it is quite fiddly! Access is VERY tight as you will have seen. You'll need a 1/4 inch Universal joint and a 3/8 and 1/4 sockets. Undo 8mm? nut and remove the wire to the glowplug (1/4 socket and UJ) then use a deep 10mm socket (I that to cut the one I used down a little) and a UJ (I used a 3/8 to 1/4 inch adapter then the 1/4 inch UJ again and remove the glowplug. Put a little copper-slip on the new ones and don't overtighten! refitting the wire and nut is fiddly. Be VERY careful not to drop anything small- like the 8mm nut, into the head. It will always be in your mind that, if anything does go wrong and the head, or manifold, needs to come off- then the engine has to be removed from the Car first!! Not rocket-science, just tale care. If its of help I've changed the glow plugs on my R Kangoo 1.9D. With ignition off, you simply unbolt (or unclip) the electric wire to each glow plug and remove the glow plug with a 10mm deep socket. Installation is reverse (just like spark plugs really). On a Kangoo the only time consuming affair is removing the air cleaner and any other obstacles to gain access to the glow plugs, and it sounds similar on your Espace. Otherwise its a costly fit at your dealer. Tip> use genuine Renault glowplugs as I found the cheap substitutes dont last more than a few months (despite 2yr warranty etc) otherwise it could cost you sooner to replace them all again!
