Why does my Emachine crash, five minutes after i turn it on?

My emachines keeps shutting off by itself. Its a fairly new emachines, but im not sure of the model number. It has 2.2 ghz and 256 mb of space, and i dont think it is the memory. It shuts off completely, and a yellow light comes on or starts flashing on the hard drive, just about five minutes after i turn the computer on. It will not stay on long enough to run any programs. I tried replacing the heat sink and the fan, but it still doesnt work. Can You help me?

if your cpu is an amd dont use paste.only use a thermal pad
if you use paste the chip will over heat as the paste will disperse away from the middle of the cpu leaving no protection
between the cpu and the heat shield. make shaw you have the right heat shield for the cpu. and try using chasis fans one in front and one in back of you case. as amds will turn off straight
away as they get hot very quick.

does your computer have a virus checker on it ?. sounds like you either have a boot virus or you have deleted a major file . may want to wipe the system and restart.if a virus checker is in place.

1. are you able to go into safe mode??

ie just after the bleep (post noise )press f8 or f7
that should take you into safe mode, then run you virus checker.

2. if no virus found , whilst in safe mode use system restore go back to a point were you know the computer ran ok
