This is what bt call ring trip. If you have new type phone socket (one with a line across the middle) then remove the two screws and plug your phone in to the socket behind it. If your phone works ok the problem is with your internal equipment. If it still is not working try a different phone and if still no luck then ring bt as it is there problem.

How many phones etc do you have connected to the line, ie if you have more than 4 phones, computers ,fax machines or sky boxes it wont work properly. Unplug one at a time and you will find the culprit.
