mower stops running after starting?

Craftsman II 3 One Convertible mower model 917 373680 starts when primed but quits after a few seconds. Starts again when primed again, but will not continue running.

It sounds to me that if you have a filter on it ,it most likely is clogged. Or,the small carbuerator needs to be taken off and examined to see if the float needle is sticking. It is located at the top of the float itself.
