Marley Garage Roof (Asbestos or what?)?

I too, have a corrugated garage roof that leaks at the securing bolt holes

The garage was purchased (by the previous house owner) from and erected by Marley in the early 1980's.

Can anyone tell me how I can confirm that it is, or is not asbestos?

The white corrugated asbestos sheeting as previously used by Marley in the 1960's 70's and 80's can be disposed at the Council scrap yard FREE of charge.

The only restrictions they make is, that each 3 sheets must be covered in a plastic sheeting, and sealed.

The Council has a 'Special' location at each site for the disposal of these sheets, and hope this is of help ?

It's all a con. Blue asbestos is nasty, most other composites are of white asbestos and can be safely be disposed of. Ignore any commercial enterprise and contact your local council for advice, they are duty bound to provide it. They will hither and dither because the people you initially speak to can't/won't comit themselves because of their ignorance. Persist and move up the organisation. Also check out HSE guidlines; hard work but at the end of the day I believe you will be able to dispose of through landfill.

A builder came to give me a quote for repairing the leaks and promptly fell through the roof shattering two ridge tiles and his ego. He said "is this asbestos?". My Marley receipt (1987) says "fibre cement" - so my question is the same as yours - does it contain asbestos? He says I have to contact local council to find out, and disposal will be costly if it is asbestos.
