Mend HP f500 Laptop Blank Screen Hp

Can anyone help me fix a laptop?

My daughter bought a Presario f500 laptop a year ago & recently when she boots it up she gets a blank screen I know there is a way to fix this but can't remember how. Can ayone help with this problem?
