Since I only have a direct tv universal remote, I held down the menu button on the tv, and when the screen went off I hit tv input on the remote! It worked like a charm!!

If you have a universel remote you have to re set it every time you turn it on. Push the menu and channel up button at the same time for a few seconds,it will clear and then you can use your remote

No one has ever answered how to do it with a universal remote. I'm unable to select ANY option with mine. All I can do is move up down and side to side through the options. I need to turn this stupid thing off!!!!

The easiest way to fix this problem is to go to the guide menu and scroll all the way over to setup hit ok and go to review options and then a screeen will pop up that says Guide plus+ system auto display and chose off.

For years I turned on the tv with the remote and then had to get up and turn the tv off and then back on again to get the Guide Plus menu to disappear. But thanks to your responses I was finally able to turn it off this morning using the arrow buttons on the tv.

Well, I managed to get the 00000 zip code to work to turn the guide off. (Thank you!) However, the original Guide Plus remote is broken and we've been using a different RCA universal remote. Our problem is that we can no longer watch a DVD because you have to use the "who input" button to do so. GAH! Why do they have to make it so difficult? What happened to being able to punch in a particular channel when you want to watch a movie? Anyone know how to fix this, short of buying another stupid Guide Plus remote?

I can't get to the zip code part because the Guide Plus Demo won't turn off. It worked fine for 8 years and then the electicity went off one day and the demo mode is on. Have tried unplugging it. Have to constantly hit cancel to get it to go away for a few seconds. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I also went into setup and entered "00000" as my zip code and now the Guide no longer comes up. Thanks R. Warren! This worked on my Magnavox VRU662AT. The thing that was aggravating me was that the time was always an hour off, like daylight savings time was not accounted for.

Holy mother! Thanks so much! Someone above said that there is no telling how many people this information posted my Mike has help, and I concur. I was just given an old RCA tv, which works great, but I was dreaded having to wait for 5 minutes everytime I turned it on to be able to use my Verizon Fios menu, since the silly outdated Guide Plus was in the way. This info is extremely appreciated.

HOW TO TURN OFF THE GUIDE PLUS+;
This is how it went with me:
Step 1 - Press "menu" on remote control
Step 2 - Press Option 7 on remote control
Step 3 - Press Option 3 on remote control
Step 4 - Scroll to "OFF" or press option 2 on remote control
Step 5 - exit using instructions.
That's it! Problem solved for me

Our RCA did not have the "Guide+" option discribed by Chevelyn. However, I did find that when looking at the Guide Plus "Grid", you can use the up arrow to get to the headings of the grid. Then continue using the right arrow to move to the "Setup". There you will find a way to view the options and turn off Guide Plus.

Use the "Menu" button for your TV. Select "Channel" from the list of menu items. Look for something that refers to Guide Plus+ being "automatic" or "display". Select and turn off or to non-display.

At the shop, we have turned off the Guide Plus on other RCAs using these three steps.___STEP 1: Choose the Guide Plus Menu (Option 7) from the Main Menu.___STEP 2: Choose Guide Plus Setup (Option 1).___STEP 3: In rapid sequence press these three buttons; MENU, GO BACK, then INPUT. ("Rapid" is considered a fraction of a second between button presses. So, locate these buttons ahead of time.)
