i have a riding mower.I have put new battery and switch in.Mower will not start with the switch, but will start if I turn the key to on position and put a jump to the starter please tell me is my next step to check

If your wires look good and connections are not corroded then I would replace the solonoid. you can pick it up at any home improvement stor for around 10 dollars.
