Mend Yamaha GP800 Start Fine Changed

Dies in water?

I can start my 1999 GP 800 waverunner just fine on land. I've changed the sparkplugs, filter, and battery. As soon as I get it in the water it putts around then dies. Itwill start right back but it will do the same thing. What is the problem with that? PLEASE HELP.....
