Mend Vulcan Continental Boiler Heating Repair

Vulcan continental boiler?

I have a vulcan continental boiler which is about 20 years ols.It has only now started giving me problems.I could begin to smell gas and called a corgi regd man in who disconnected it saying the gas valve was faulty and that i neede a full new system at around 2000.Can anew gas valve not be replaced?Please help
