How can i fix my high hat stand?

Hello there, I have a drum kit up for sale but the high hat stand appears to be broken. I have no clue how to fix the spring part. I do not think anything has sheared off or physicall snapped but i was wondering if anyone knew how to arrange the spring section inside the stand. For example where do i put the washers and the spring. My friend tried to fix it and i think he made it worse. When i press the pedal down it goes all the way to the bottom and the cymbals do nothing. Please please help, thankyou
