how can i fix my epson rx520?

I have always used compatible cartrdiges for my printer and has so far produced good photos, however, now it is printing with lines and the colour is dull, we have tried cleaning the head several times, it has made a little better but not totally, there are still lines appearing, any advice would be grateful as i use it to print out cards and photos a lot.
