i have a indesit is70c tumble dryer that won't heat up, is there anyway possible i could repair this problem myself or is it going to cost me an arm and a leg to repair? help please!!

Got my Indesit IDC85 working in minutes. Although unplugged resetting the thermostat freaked me out as I only had a drawing pin to hand and it makes quite a crack like I was being electrocuted. Happily I'm still breathing and my dryer has lovely hot air again. Beats the £95 Indesit were charging for a call out.

If the pin reset doesn't work and your light remains on then open the float assembly and clean it. I was disheartened when the pin trick didn't work so tried another forum and hey presto I have a working tumbler dryer and a lot of disgusting goo from around the float pump!

Mine wouldn't run its a 75c it was a jammed float in the overflow unit lower rear corner make sure it's unplugged first the nun lip the cover remove the float clean reassemble and clip back works. My wife wanted to got and but a new one RESULT

Machine belongs to my elderly mother in law, She let the condensation res fill right to the top and filter heavily fluffed up, machine is making humming noise I have emptied water out and stripped and cleaned filter but cannot get machine to work except for the buzzing noise when switched on can anyone help? CAREFULLY followed instructions for resetting thermostat, after emptying and cleaning both filters and checking, vac out all fluff from around elements too. Took 20 minutes total, worked a treat. Many thanks.

I have an Indesit IDC85 that wouldn't heat up either. This is the second time it's happened. The first time we called an engineer (but was in warranty period so free; this time however it would have cost) I followed the instructions on here (mine was quite a loud and firm click - almost like a snap!) and just 15 minutes later (I'm a slow worker) it's reassembled and drying clothes on a day when we are forecast to see one months worth of rain fall in one day! I have an indesit dryer. When i feel the back it is getting hot but the clothes take ages to dry. i have cleaned all the filters and replaced the heating element.

Thanks Guys,! Opened her up and found a wire from a bra has wiggled its way through to the heating element ! Doh, had the damn thing on all day wondering why the heating wasnt on!. I removed it and used a pin in the small black cylinder and "click" jobs a goodun :) . Ill wait for the missus to put the Bra on and then ill tell her. haha.

I just wanted to say thanks for the fix. I had a few problems getting the back off but, that was just adhesive keeping it on. I didn't realise but the screws keeping the heating elements on are on the front of the casing where the screws holding the whole case are. Once the heating element piece is off, the pin-hole was easily identified as, it was one on the black discs. It took me about 20 mins but, I am not technical and it must have saved us at least £100. It may seem obvious, but if the thermostat has tripped make sure that the heater elements aren't clogged with fluff. I reset mine today and the elements had fluff around them which had started to burn. It's probably going to trip before catching fire, but the safest option is to get the hoover out !

just saved a 50 quid callout from hotpoint. they would likely have changed a small part and charged me 80 i reckon. they know this is a common issue. why is the reset switch not located where joe public can get to it? planned this way?

Hi anybody help? Have an IDC75 dryer, have followed advice on here in regards to resetting the thermostat however after taking off the back and finding the two (battery type) things i couldnt find any hole for a pin type item? I have looked on top where the wires are connected and the only holes i see are where the connecting plates join the cream and black thermostats.

We have tried resetting the thermostat, but no 'clicking' sound - Reassembled, and still same problem. If we tilt the tumble dryer forward quite a bit, we can get it heating and drying, but that's obviously not ideal! Any other suggestions?

MAKE SURE YOUR DRYER IS UNPLUGGED...if you put your dryer on an feel the back on the raised part of it take and its cold take out all the screws on the raised part of the back cover. this should expose the heating elements unscrew this from the loose back plate find a little whole on the left-hand thermostat and insert a pin/minute nail untill you hear a click once u hear this click you can rescrew all that you undone and hopefuly HEY PRESTO your dryer will now dry (again)

i have a indesit IDC75 dryer that i would be lost without and as said took the covers off and found the reset button in a small hole in what looks like a large watch battery bobs your uncle fixed now heating up nicely thankyou so much saved me money that i havent got , cant believe how much indesit charge for someone to come out and to the same thing !

Hi, just gave my mother my old (26yr old) tumble dryer because my mother-in-law gave me her relatively new Indeset IS70C condenser tumble dryer which she did not use. I had no plans to use it until this coming winter, but because of the weather I had no choice but to use it now. I put the washing in and went back 1 1/2 hrs later to find wet washing. AHHH!!!
Decided to check it out on the net and found this advise - which worked. I did it myself under my husband's supervision, so that if it happens again I will know what to do. Simply take the back off - the two silver plates - womans talk - which are set at an angle, undo the two screws which exposes the wiring. You will find the thermostats underneath. They are like camera batteries to look at. One has a hole in the middle, simply use a cocktail stick and press in the hole. You should hear a distinctive click. Your thermostat is re-set and you have just saved yourself some cash!! Thanks for the advise in the first place.

So easy. No heat. Back off. Two screws release element to give access to thermostats. One has a pinhole in the middle. Insert pin, hear click, reassemble. Working. Ten mins. Thanks people.

Thanks for the thermostat reset advice. Toothpick or safety pin both good for resetting. The black adhesive holding the metal casing on is probably a sealant - the drier may leak a bit of hot air out the back once this is broken, unless you do the screws up firmly when putting the casing back on. Thanks once again for your help.

Hi, hanks for the advice - we just reset ours. Not tried it yet but 3 of the flat metal pieces that run through the middle of the elements are snapped. The spiral wire itself looks to be intact. Looking like we need to fork out for the new part?

Took the back off, unscrewed the thermostat, placed a cocktail stick in the small hole and bingo all reset and £200 pound better off.

Resetting the thermostat with a pin worked for me as well. Don't be discouraged if the metal casing holding the heating element doesn't come off easily despite undoing all of the screws. Mine had some kind of black adhesive holding it on. I ran a knife under the edges and it eventually came free. I undid a further screw holding the heating assembly to the outer metal case as well and that gave me access to the back of the thermostats. The one I wanted had a hole surrounded by a black ring right in the middle.

I have just had same problem, only realised when a load of towels were sopping wet over an hour after I put them in and were stone cold. Was dreading the problem being the thermostat/element gone as I simply cannot afford to buy a new kit and fitting etc, so I followed the instructions for the thermostat reset, and BINGO! Working perfectly again! Thanks so much!!

This is such a simple remedy, even a woman can do it!! I'm proof! This problem 1st occurred when the dryer was within its warranty, but the repairman made it sound such a longwinded & difficult repair. Even though I was trying to watch what he was doing, he made a meal of what took me only 10 minutes!! You don't need an expensive toolkit, I used a screwdriver & a wooden kebab skewer (To reset the thermostat). Thank god for the internet & thank you all for saving me £40+.

I too have an is70c with, guess what...exactly the same problem: full water light on, but empty tray and no heat.
Followed your advice (carlbh), reset the thermostat and Bob's your uncle, problem solved.
Makes you wonder if there's a design flaw here though, doesn't it?

I have just fixed mine. It was the thermostat that needed resetting.
To help people troubleshoot, try these steps in event of no heat:
Step 1 - Feel outer casing on back of dryer, if this is hot then elements & thermostats are good and you need to clean the filter.
Step 2 - If the casing is cold to touch then switch off dryer and unplug, remove outer casing and visibly inspect elements for obvious breakages. If broken, then replace element set, available from spare part stockists at around £ 40.
Step 3 - If no breaks then look for the thermostat with a small hole in the rear in between the wires. Try resetting the thermostat buy using a pin to push into the hole until a click is heard, reassemble and try.
Step 4 - if still no heat by pass thermostats in turn by connecting wires directly, reassebling and trying for heat.
Step 5 - If this does not work it would seem to be a PCB fault.

HI, I'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BECAUSE THE EMPTY WATER DRAWER LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF. I WAS TOLD IT MIGHT BE THE SWICH STICKING.. I KNOW THIS IS PROBABLY NOT THE BEST ADVICE BUT WE TRIED TO TAKE THE BACK OFF, COULDN'T DO IT BUT IT FIXED ITSELF. SO MAYBE JUST GIVE IT A "GENTLE AGITATION" OR A BIT OF A KICK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS

Thanks to "The Helper" for pointing me in the right direction! Mine needed one of the thermostats resetting, which needs access to the side the cables are attached to.
The heater elements can be found behind the raised metal plate below and left of the plate cover the drum spindle. Make sure you remove the plug from the mains before accessing.
Once you remove the plate, you'll see the exposed elements. You then need to remove the chassis holding the elements to expose the underside (the wiring side) of the thermostats (Silver buttons approx 1cm dia). One of the thermostats has a small hole in the centre on the side that the wiring is connected. Insert a small pin or the like and you should hear a quiet click. That resets the thermostat!
Cost us £40 to have this reset last time!

Just sorted the same prob. Pull dryer out to gain access to rear, start drum rotating, set to low/high heat, feel on curved metal cover on back, if hot, heater elements/thermostat ok.
My fault cleared by cleaning out the air flow filter on front of dryer.Pull down 'flap' door at front, unclip 3 x retaining clips, pull out filter, check inside-can be viewed from top. To clean properly, undo 2 x small screws on left/right side, ease out unit with small screwdriver and the use similar to clear out all fluff and gubbins, which prevent correct air flow.
I cleared pens tops, a tennis ball sized wedge of wet fluff and various coins!
Cost of heater unit-£35-54. Cost of a clear out £0!

P.S. Obviously always clear the filter inside door betwen loads!

9 times out of 10 it is down to the thermostat or t.o.c, which cause no heat, on this model it is a constant problem.
The thermostat and t.o.c are positioned just above the heater element at the rear of the dryer.
You can check them with a multimeter to see if they are doing the job or as a quick test you could take the 2 wires from the one stat and temporarily join them together and see if you have heat, if still no heat do the same with the other t.o.c next to it and see if you have heat then, if still no heat then it will be the heat element that needs replacing.
Warning, ensure tha you do not touch the appliance when switched on to test the above without the protective panel/s in place.
