Mend Gateway ZV5000 Hard Drive Removed

I just purched a new hard drive for my ZV5000?

I just purchased a new hard drive for my ZV5000 laptop, I removed the old one which I was told was not working and installed the new one, both indentical, part numbers are the same. When I put it into the laptop the contacts on the hard drive don't seem to touch the contacts inside of the laptop, I turn it on and I get a error message saying no IDE detected. Whhat did I do wrong, am I missing a part?
