How can i improve heavy clutch pedal?

my peugeot partner van (diesel) has a heavy clutch which is proving uncomfortable on long journeys. There is a large spring on pedal hinge and i considering taking it off?

Any ideas?

mine is the same really heavy but my clutch just went cud be the cable lube has dried up
