problem with connecting needle thread and bobbin thread?

please, how do i form a loop between my needle thread and the bobbin thread in my machine.i just got a joys sewing machine model PF1000 but the machine has refused to work since i tried changing the thread. the manual says to 'lightly draw up the needle thread forming a loop with the bobbin thread but how does the bobbin thread come up b4 i can form the loop.
