How do I install a new rope on my lawnmower?

The rope on my craftsman eager1 lawnmower, model 917-377582, broke off completely. I got a new one, took the cover off the top, only had one screw, but I have no idea how to put it on.

remove the metal cover plate and rethread through 2 holes with a knot on the end. respool.
