Mend Dell 1600n Printer Cartridge

Why can't I get my toner cartridge to work?

I'm replacing the toner cartridge in my Dell 1600n & can not get the thing to work! I can find nothing which looks like it should come off the cartridge first. And no instructions! Help?!
